At a time when we have got nothing to stop our kids to access internet, there are some basic things that we can do to avoid exposure to internet porn. Here are those basic steps –

Build a strong character: 

You can do so many things to avoid your child from watching porn, liking hiding your computer, strictly telling him not to open the laptop etc. But if you make him build a strong character, there will not be need for any other measures.

• Make him understand what is Brahmacharya and make him / her to follow that.
• Tell him stories of people that you admire. Gift him biographies of greats like Steve Jobs, Albert Einstein, etc. Explain to her, how, having a great concentration and character helped them reach pristine heights.
• Imbibe devotion and dedication in them.
• Make them disciplined.

Indulge in their activities. 

Do not leave them alone for a long period of time. Just check into their rooms and say, “hi, what you doing? let me see.”  There should be authority, there should be love and there should be genuine concern and interest.

• Authority – You are the reporting officer for him. The kid should know it.
• Love – You are the most-loving person in his world. The kid should realize it.
• Genuine concern and interest –  It is not as if you are stumbling across to his room just to keep an eye on her. You should really be concerned about how you can participate with her to help her in all possible ways.

Suggest good educational websites to your kid.

• Learn about his interests and do a research on it. For example arts, dance, music, drawing, musical instruments etc.
• Collect some information about tutorial websites based on his interest.
• Sit with him and introduce those websites to him.
• If he is academically oriented, introduce him to Khan Academy.

Give him and her, sex education

At the age of 12, your daughter should  know,

• How to maintain hygiene of private parts.
• What is menarche, how it changes the hormones and body features.
• What are the hygiene aspects that need extra attention etc.
• What is sex. What is the right time for it and why she should avoid interest for now.
• How puberty is going to bring in sexual thoughts and how Brahmacharya helps to convert sexual power into concentration and helps to achieve success in one’s life.

At 12, your son should know

• What is puberty, how it changes body features.
• What is sex, what is the right time to think about it.
• How puberty is going to bring in sexual thoughts and how Brahmacharya helps to convert sexual power into concentration and helps to achieve success in one’s life.

Block the adult content in internet

Put those adult CDs away from child’s reach. 

If you have any such collection, then make sure that you keep them away from your child’s reach.

Watch yourself

Your character and discipline is what reflects in your child’s behaviour.

Avoid dirty language and dirty behavior.

Avoid unnecessary scolding / praising of your kid

Make sure to be the best friend of your kid.

Give her proper attention, concentrate on her overall development and make sure that she is concentrated on studies and good hobbies.
